There is one magical ingredient in M BODY that has been said to improve your mood and probably not for the reason you might think. Now, let it be known that my personal opinion (and training) as a herbalist is that it is the sum and synergies of all ingredients actually activate a higher level of benefits but let’s just park that for a moment and focus on Partially Hydrolyzed Guar Gum; one of the six incredible food ingredients that make M BODY so special.
Improving your mood may not just be a brain ‘problem.’ As we continue to find out more about gut health, researchers are continuing to discover that the gut is our second brain and we do make most of our neurotransmitters, specifically dopamine and serotonin in the gut, not primarily the brain as once thought.
So when you think of improving your overall mood, it may not be as difficult as we once thought since addressing gut health is far easier than addressing brain health. That said, it is likely that you really can’t have one without the other and here at M BODY we are committed to overall health since you can’t actually separate systems of the body, as they all work together much like a symphony.
Partially Hydrolyzed Guar Gum (for us we use organic) is a dietary fibre from the guar bean (Cyanopsis tetragonolopus) that is well recognised for many health benefits including gut health, constipation and supporting microbiome. More recently a study* concluded that Partically Hydrolyzed Guar Gum not only improved digestive health and more favourable bowel movements but it improved quality of life and sleep. “In summary, the consumption of Partially Hydrolyzed Guar Gum dietary fibre is found effective in suppressing the potent harmful mucolytic bacteria that could be associated with the improvement of constipation-related symptoms including mental health in terms of sleep and motivation among the healthy subjects.”
What this also shows is that we can have an emotional response to a physical reaction - that is when our gut isn’t working optimally it can impact our moods. Our emotions are key symptoms in guiding us as to what may be physically compromised within. In fact Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) subscribes to the theory that each organ has an attached emotion. The emotion of the gut (spleen and stomach in TCM terminology) is worry and to some degree stress.
How does this apply to you? Leaning into all your body signs and symptoms always provides our best clues and looking outside physical symptoms can really help assist in those tricky scenarios where you can’t quite put a finger on what is going on.
In the coming weeks we will share more about emotions and symptoms to help continue to support you in your health journey. But for now just know that your M BODY is working in small magical ways to support areas of your health you are possibly not even aware of. And we love that for you.
